DESCRIPTION

If you're wandering through the vibrant streets of New Orleans, make sure to carve out some time for a stop at Turkey and the Wolf, located at 739 Jackson Ave. This unassuming sandwich shop packs a punch with its bold flavors and creative offerings, making it a must-visit for both locals and visitors alike.

As I approached this quirky eatery, I was greeted by the enticing smell of sandwiches being grilled to perfection. The atmosphere was delightfully kitschy, filled with an eclectic mix of decor that made the whole experience feel refreshingly unique. One step inside and you could almost feel the lively spirit of the Big Easy enveloping you.

Now let’s talk sandwiches. The bologna sandwich here is truly legendary—it's a standout item that many patrons rave about. Andrew S. called it "the best sandwich I’ve had from any restaurant," and I couldn't agree more. Its combination of soft, toasted bread with tangy spreads and perfectly balanced toppings is nothing short of magical. Add to that, the portion sizes are generous, often enough to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.

Another gem on the menu is the Tomato Sandwich, which left Melissa Jandreski utterly impressed. Its gigantic Texas toast-style presentation is one for the ages. Dripping with juicy flavor and no need for protein, it captures the essence of summer in every bite. It’s the kind of sandwich that invites you to dig in without hesitation, savouring every morsel without regret.

Complement your sandwich with their renowned wedge salad, packed with fresh ingredients and a zesty twist. Arija highlighted how the fried bologna sandwich’s bread had the ideal balance of texture—soft yet crispy—which is a testament to the skill behind the counter. A side of collard greens balances the richness of the meal, though tastes may vary. For those who enjoy an adventurous palate, Maddie Martin’s experience with hogheadcheese tacos offers a peek into the creativity at Turkey and the Wolf.

It’s important to note that, while the line to order can stretch outside the door, the wait is entirely justified. The food comes out quickly, maintaining a steady flow that keeps the hungry crowd satisfied. Matthew P. shared his enthusiasm over the chicken pot pie; a smaller yet equally delightful option for snacking—a perfect companion to whatever main dish you choose.

In conclusion, Turkey and the Wolf isn’t just a sandwich shop; it's an experience. It's a celebration of creativity, offering comfort food with a twist that makes every visit memorable. Whether you're a sandwich connoisseur or just someone looking to indulge in flavorful food, this place beckons you back time and again. Make your way to this gem in New Orleans—you won’t regret it!

Visited this spot while in NOLA for a gaming tournament. It was recommend by a local so I had to try it. The bologna sandwich was by far the best sandwich I’ve had from any restaurant. Highly recommend! The fries were good as well...they were nothing to write home about but as a side they paired well with the sandwich. I had to wait about 25 minutes in the line to order but well worth it!

My daughter dragged me here. I was standing in line with a face, but then I saw a yummy gigantic Texas toast style sandwich being served - I saw the light. The Tomato Sandwich was huge but so good! The kind where you just have to let go and get in there. The juices were dripping, and you just don’t care and keep going. It didn’t even need a protein. The collard green sandwich was good but a bit too rich and spicy for me. The Tomato one was more memorable. Lastly the blue cheese bacon wedge salad delivered. They don’t skimp out on ingredients here. I can be dragged back here whenever - I’m here for it.

Stopped in for late lunch on a Thursday and it was not very busy. Ordered at counter and grabbed a seat. Food came out quickly and looked incredible. The fried bologna sandwich was fantastic. The bread was both soft and toasty, the spread was the perfect tang. It was an all around great sandwich. Got the wedge too which was exactly what I was craving and the perfect combo of fresh and savory. The atmosphere was kitschy and cozy.

Incredible spot! Took a while to order food - got there about 11:30am and ordered by 12:10pm. Food came out promptly after the order was placed, about 10 mins. The sandwhiches are very large in size. I ordered the bologna sandwich (highly recommend) but it is enough for 2 people unless you are starving. The flavor here is so bold - and the balance of toppings is perfect. I took half home for leftovers and was very good thrown into the oven. I also tried the chicken pot pie which I loved. This is smaller but is great if you just want to snack. Still a good portion of food for the price. Love the deconstructed nature to preserve the taste!

Definitely a cool, funky little hole in the wall here in Nola!! Very creative menu!!! I usually rate the food/experience a 1-10, and i give it an overall 8.5/10!! Once again, i love the creativity of the menu but nothing really wowed me when it came to the hogheadcheese tacos, was very fresh though! The collard green sandwich was out of this world and the cabbage salad was like nothing i have ever had before- beyond refreshing!! We ate outside on a very beautiful breezy day!! Food came out very fast despite the line to order was outside of the door!! I would definitely eat here again!! Keep up the great work!!!

Surprisingly really enjoyed the collared green sandwich, even with no meat. I do think some deli meat woulda been nice in there but I will say the sandwich was filled still filled with various veggie. The bread was super flaky and buttery. Each bite was crisp on top, buttery, savory and well spiced.

Believe the hype. Go but definitely try the collard sandwich, sleeper best bite. The pot pie was so good. Skip the ham sandwich, the fried bologna was good, bread on the sandwich was killer...just wish the meat was thicker slices. Wedge was damn good! The coleslaw pile was spicy and super refreshing on the hot afternoon. Be sure to get there by 11ish as the lines only got longer.

If you were born in the 80s the decor will immediately put a smile on your face. Once you take a bite you’ll begin to consider taking trips to New Orleans specifically to come here. Welcoming and warm, the Turkey and the Wolf checks all of the boxes. Excellent!
